Spring in Okinawa brings sun, smiles, and citrus blossoms — and nothing captures that better than the Katsuyama Shikuwasa Flower & Fragrance Festival in Nago City. This local celebration highlights three of northern Okinawa’s greatest gifts: the rugged mountains, spirited goats, and tangy shikuwasa citrus.
Where and When
This two-day festival takes place on March 14 (Saturday) and March 15 (Sunday), 2026 at various sites around Katsuyama in Nago City, with the main hub at Katsuyama Community Center Grounds and nearby areas. Admission is free, and there’s parking available nearby.

What to Expect
In the foothills of northern Okinawa, this year’s festival blends outdoor adventure, culture, and hands-on fun:
On March 14, multiple venues come alive:
- At Katsuyama Community Center, you can join a guided plant walk with local expert Hatsumi Naka, try pottery and custom chopstick making, enjoy food stalls, and more.
- BASE CAMP hosts outdoor workshops, a food & drink stage, and yoga sessions.
- Kokaru Mori Bookshop features a secondhand book market and mobile food stands.
- Yuhi no Oka (Sunset Hill) offers campsites, local performing arts, and more local eats.

On March 15, activities continue with a lively performance lineup:
- Hula and other community performances kick off the day, followed by the thrilling Hiija (goat) aura-sê competition, cheering crowds for shikuwasa juice drinking contests, school band performances, folk songs, and even a K-pop dance show to wrap up the festivities.
- There’s also a chance to win a goat in a raffle — yes, an actual goat!
Alongside the event schedule, plenty of local stalls offer regional flavor, crafts, and experiential fun that capture the heart of northern Okinawa.
