Picture every Star Wars faction and every Marvel team calling a truce for one night. Jedi grabbing a plate lunch next to the Avengers, Sith Lords in line behind the X-Men, nobody swinging a lightsaber or firing a repulsor blast, everybody just standing around enjoying the food and the noise. That’s basically what happens every summer in Okinawa when the neighborhood youth associations, known as seinenkai, roll into a parking lot together. Instead of capes and blasters, they bring taiko drums the size of oil barrels. Instead of saving the galaxy, they’re saving a Saturday night from being boring. This time it’s Ishikawa’s turn to host the crossover, and it goes by the name Ishikawa Ashibinaa Festival, happening August 1, 2026.
🥁 A Taiko Team-Up Bigger Than the Avengers
“Ashibinaa” is Okinawan for playground, or a place where people gather, and the name earns its keep here. Multiple seinenkai are bringing their own Eisa squads, each with its own drum patterns, chants, and choreography, which means you’re not watching one performance, you’re watching a lineup of rival crews trying to out-thunder each other in the same night sky. The drums hit like a bass drop with ancestors behind it, and the whole point is that generations mix on the same patch of grass, kids included, nobody sitting this one out.

🍔 Kitchen Cars: The Cantina Scene, But With Better Food
Every good gathering of heroes needs a bar scene, and here it’s a row of kitchen cars instead of a cantina full of bounty hunters. Expect a rotating spread of Okinawan street food, the kind you eat standing up while a drum solo shakes the ground under your feet. Bring cash, bring an appetite, and don’t plan on a quiet dinner.

Running the show are two MCs who both grew up in Ishikawa, including a bullfighting announcer who knows how to work a crowd that’s used to watching two bulls headbutt each other for sport. Expect commentary with actual hometown stakes behind it, not a rented voice reading off cue cards.
