Zenbu Matsuri Returns to Itoman Fishing Port on August 16, 2026

Somewhere out there right now, half of Asia is underwater and half of Europe is on fire. Scroll through any news app and it looks like a preview reel for the end times. My current working theory on all of it: God is good, beer is cold, and we are collectively cooked — so we might as well go stand near some fishermen and watch a few boats race each other. On August 16, 2026, Itoman Fishing Port is handing you exactly that excuse.

Now in its third year, Zenbu Matsuri (roughly, “the everything festival”) lives up to its name by cramming two separate events into one free afternoon-into-evening at the fishing port’s north district. One half is a full-throttle showcase of Okinawan performing arts. The other half is a seafood free-for-all thrown by actual fishermen. Neither side is watered down for tourists — this is the real version.

🥁 The Traditional Grand Performance

Eisa drum troupes, dragon boat racers from the Harii Ryusen Festival Okinawa, flag-bearer processions (hatagashira), and Kunigami Sabakui performers all take the stage, alongside shishimai lion dancers and Ryukyu classical dance. If you’ve only seen eisa performed for a hotel lobby crowd, this is the louder, sweatier, more sincere version.

🐟 The Fisherman’s Grand Feast

Organizers are calling this the largest gathering of fishermen in Okinawa prefecture’s history, with fishing cooperatives traveling in from Ishigaki, Kume Island, Miyako, and Minami Daito to cook whatever they’d actually eat themselves. This isn’t festival food dressed up for cameras — it’s fisherman’s food, made by fishermen, for people willing to stand in a parking lot and eat it properly.

🎽 Crowdfunding And A T-Shirt

The organizing committee is running a crowdfunding campaign through July 31, 2026, to keep this tradition funded and growing, with original event T-shirts on sale if you want a souvenir that isn’t a fridge magnet.

Where and When 📅

📍 Itoman Fishing Port North District (in front of the Okinawa Prefectural Fisheries Corporation)

If you’re new to the island — whether you’re visiting for a week or stationed here for a year and still figuring out what there is to do besides the beach and the base gate — this one’s worth the drive south. It’s free, it’s outdoors, and it’s one of the rare events where the culture on stage is being performed by the people who actually grew up in it, not a version built for a brochure.

Put it on your calendar now, because good moods are apparently in short supply this year. For more events happening around Okinawa this week, check okisocial.com/category/events.
