47th Kin Town Festival: Fireworks, Kamen Rider and Fancy Grapes on October 17-18, 2026

Let’s talk about the word “festival.” In America it means overpriced lemonade, a guy selling funnel cake for the price of a car payment, and a band nobody asked for. In Okinawa it means an entire town closes ranks, builds a stage, dresses a grown adult as a superhero, and then blows stuff up in the sky at the end. Honestly, one of these is a better use of a weekend. 🎆

The 47th Kin Town Festival runs Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026. Forty-seven years. That’s longer than most of the cars on Highway 329 have been alive, and it’s still going, which tells you somebody in Kin Town is doing something right.

The Stage Show at Kin Chiiki Park 🎤

The stage programs kick off at 16:00 and run until 20:00 both days, at Kin Chiiki Park. The headliner for the small humans is the Kamen Rider show, which means dozens of children screaming at a man in a helmet as if he personally invented joy. Around that you get music performances and assorted programs for kids and adults. Is it high art? No. Will you stand there smiling like an idiot anyway? Yes. 🦸

Bonsai and Kids’ Games at the Community Hall 🌳

Over at Kin Town Central Community Hall, exhibits run from 10:00 to 17:00 both days. Inside you’ll find a bonsai exhibition, which is a room full of tiny trees that someone has been nagging into shape for decades. Respect it. You can’t keep a houseplant alive for two weeks. Right next door, the Kin Town Kids’ Festival has play booths for the little ones, so the children get exhausted and you get to say you were “being cultured.”

The Grape Situation 🍇

Here’s the part that matters. Kin Town sells Shine Muscat grapes from Yakage Town in Okayama Prefecture, Kin’s friendship partner. Shine Muscat is the grape that costs more than your lunch at a regular store, and quantities are limited. Translation: arrive at noon, get a nice grape-shaped hole in your heart. Go early.

Fireworks Finale 🎇

Both nights end with fireworks. Free fireworks. Admission to the whole thing is free, so the only thing you’re spending is money on snacks and your dignity at the grape stand.
