We are at the end of typhoon season, which is a lovely sentence right up until Typhoon No. 30 shows up and says, “Not so fast, pal.” Thirty. Who is naming these, and why does the 30th one still feel like it has something to prove? It’s like the guy at the party who won’t leave after the host turns off the music. Anyway, if you’ve spent the last few months watching the sky like it owes you money, here’s something to look forward to: the Nakagusuku Gosamaru Festival is coming, and it comes with live music and fireworks. Fireworks you can actually enjoy without wondering if your roof is staying on. 🌀➡️🎆

What Is This Thing, Exactly? 🏯
The 15th Nakagusuku Gosamaru Festival is a two-day autumn party put on by Nakagusuku Village to celebrate its own history and culture. Nakagusuku is the village with the famous castle ruins, and the festival is named after Gosamaru, the lord who once ran the place. Fifteen editions in, the village clearly knows what it’s doing. Admission is free, which in this economy is practically a crime.
The Stage Show 🎤
Live Performances From Special Guests 🎶
The lineup includes Chakarando and D-51, so expect real live music instead of a guy with a karaoke machine and a dream. Both days run from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, which gives you plenty of time to wander, snack, and clap at the right moments.
The Fireworks 🎇
A Big Finale, Both Nights 💥
Each day ends with a fireworks show, and the village promises a large finale. Two nights of it means that if the weather ruins one, you still get a second shot. That’s the kind of backup plan I respect, especially this time of year.

Parking: Read This Part 🚌
There is no parking at the festival site. None. Don’t circle the lot like a hawk, because there is no lot for you. The village runs free circulation buses on four routes starting around 1:00 PM, roughly every 30 minutes, and the organizers are asking everyone to use them. Take the bus, enjoy the show, and let somebody else deal with the traffic for once.
Pro Tip: These days, event organizers tend to maximize the venue space by taking over parking space and tell attendees to take public transit. If you’re not familiar with the local bus route, our suggestion is don’t even bother to take the bus. It is awful.
Just use the venue as a center point, circle around, and slowly increase the distance until you find street parking. We can’t tell you exactly how far you have to go, but at some point you’re going to realize that there’s not so much congestion, but still within reasonable walking distance, and that’s the winner.

Why This One Is Worth Your Weekend 🌺
If you’re new to Okinawa, whether you’re here for a week or you’ve been stationed here for a year and your weekend plans are still “the usual,” this is a good one. It’s a small-village festival, which means you get the real local thing: the community that lives here, the history behind the castle you’ve probably already photographed, live music, and fireworks, all for free. No resort markup, no tour group, just Okinawa doing its own thing on a weekend.
Add it to your calendar now, before the weekend sneaks up on you, and keep an eye on the forecast like the rest of us. For more local events happening this week, head over to https://www.okisocial.com/category/events/ and pick your next move.
