Yomi Marché is a monthly outdoor food market organized by the Yomitan Village Tourism Association. Every third Sunday, kitchen cars — that’s the Japanese term for food trucks, and they are exactly as good as they sound — roll in somewhere around Yomitan to sell local snacks, sweets, and drinks. The whole operation is built around one simple idea: support local food, eat something good, and do it somewhere that isn’t a food court.

This particular installment isn’t the usual setup. Yomi Marché IN Alivila is timed to the anniversary month of Hotel Nikko Alivila, and the location reflects it — the market is setting up on the beachside promenade at Nirai Beach, widely considered one of the clearest and most pristine stretches of coastline in all of Okinawa. Instead of a village square or a parking lot, you get actual turquoise water as your backdrop while you eat. It’s a small but meaningful difference.

If you want to extend the day past the food trucks, the hotel itself has an option worth knowing about. Lounge Aria Cara — the name means “gentle air” in Spanish, which sounds like something a brochure made up but also pretty accurately describes the atmosphere — is running their Alivila Bird Cage Afternoon Tea Set through August 31st. The signature is exactly what it sounds like: a custom tiered stand shaped like a bird cage, loaded with seasonal cakes, sweets, and savory bites. It’s the kind of thing that photographs well and also tastes good, which is rarer than it should be.
The set is ¥6,000 per person (tax and service included), seats groups of two or three for a two-hour window, and requires a reservation — though same-day bookings are fine as long as you call before noon. Tea time runs 11 AM to 6 PM daily.
