Life on the Seawall: Oki Social’s Summer Drawing Contest — Deadline June 13, 2026

Summer showed up in Okinawa like it always does — no announcement, no warm-up lap, just full heat and blinding light and the smell of salt coming off the water. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, the seawall is doing what it always does: holding everybody. The fisherman who’s been coming since before you were born. The couple sitting close enough to share an earbud. The kids dangling their legs over the edge like falling is a myth. The solo person watching the sun go down like they have nowhere else to be — and meaning it.

The seawall is Okinawa’s living room. It doesn’t ask for much. You show up, you stay a while, and something happens to you whether you planned it or not. Oki Social’s next community drawing contest is about exactly that. We’re calling it Life on the Seawall, and we want to see what it looks like through your eyes.🎨 What Is This Contest?

Life on the Seawall is Oki Social’s summer community art contest, open to anyone who has ever stood on that concrete edge and felt something. The theme is wide open by design: daytime, nighttime, a crowded weekend, a quiet Tuesday, something funny, something heavy, a moment where time just stopped and you were glad it did. If it happened near the water — or if it felt like it should have — we want to see it.

Any style works. Realistic, abstract, loose sketching, something you labored over for two weeks, something that came out in twenty minutes. There is no right way to draw the seawall, which is exactly what makes this interesting. The only rule is that your submission has to be a physical piece. Digital art is welcome — print it out and bring us the paper.

One format guideline: artwork should be horizontal orientation, ideally at a 2:1 ratio (for example, 12″ wide × 6″ tall, or 30cm × 15cm). This matters because the winner’s piece will be printed and mounted on a 156cm × 82cm (about 61″ × 32″) canvas displayed inside the Oki Social store at the BX — and that canvas is exactly this ratio. Landscape format. Plan your composition with that in mind.

📌 How to Enter

Each person may submit one piece of artwork. Make it, bring it in, and we’ll take it from there.

  1. Create your artwork. Any medium is welcome — painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, digital art printed out. Before you drop it off, check the Submission Guidelines below.
  2. Drop it off at Oki Social. Bring your piece to Oki Social, Kadena Exchange, 1st floor, right in front of Bath and Body Works, before the deadline of June 13, 2026. Our staff will log your entry and keep your piece safe until the contest closes.
  3. We hold onto everything. All submitted artwork stays with us through the end of the contest. Once voting closes and the winner is announced, you’re welcome to come back and pick up your piece — or leave it with us. Nothing moves without your say-so.

📋 Submission Guidelines

Physical pieces only. Your submission must be a physical piece when you hand it in. If you made it digitally, print it out and bring us the paper.

AI Policy: AI-generated artwork is strictly prohibited. While you are welcome to use AI tools for initial inspiration or brainstorming, the final submission must be entirely your own work. If an entry is found to be AI-generated, it will be immediately disqualified.

Horizontal orientation, 2:1 ratio. Your artwork should be landscape format, ideally at a 2:1 ratio (for example, 12″ wide × 6″ tall, or 30cm × 15cm). This is because the winner’s piece will be printed and mounted on a 156cm × 82cm (about 61″ × 32″) canvas displayed inside the Oki Social store at the BX — that canvas is exactly this ratio. Plan your composition accordingly.

No promotional content. Artwork cannot include any messages, logos, website addresses, phone numbers, or calls to action of any kind. No promoting a personal brand, side hustle, or home business — pieces that do will be automatically disqualified. The one exception: if your scene includes a storefront or building with signage on it, that’s fine. Real-world text that’s part of the environment is not the same as self-promotion.

🗳️ How Voting Works

Once submissions close on June 13, we photograph every entry and post the full gallery on the Oki Social Facebook and Instagram pages. Voting is simple: likes and hearts count as votes. The piece with the most combined reactions across both platforms wins.

Voting runs from June 17 through June 22, 2026. Share your entry, tag your friends, campaign for yourself — this is the most honest kind of popularity contest there is. The winner will be announced on June 22, 2026.

🏆 The Prize That Actually Means Something

There’s no gift card this time. The winner gets something that can’t be bought:the artwork converted into a massive display at the Oki Social store at the BX. Full featured. Front-facing. Every person who walks through that door gets to see it.

We’re talking real bragging rights. Not “I won an art contest” bragging rights — “my art is printed and hanging inside the BX for everyone to see” bragging rights. That’s a different category entirely.

And because we believe that showing up deserves its own recognition: every single participant receives a participation reward when they come in to pick up their artwork. You made something, you put it in front of the community, and that takes guts. No one goes home empty-handed.
