Ever wonder what happens when Okinawan yokai (ghosts, monsters, and mischievous spirits) crash a summer night party? Well, apparently they sneak into a historical theme park and start hiding in corners like it’s a spooky version of hide-and-seek. That’s basically what’s going down at Murasaki Mura in Yomitan this year.
From May 1 (Thu) to July 6 (Sun), 2025, the park is hosting the nighttime event Ryukyu Yokai 2025. It’s part haunted scavenger hunt, part night-time light show, and part “I didn’t know my kid was brave enough for this.”
Let’s break it down like a possessed piñata 🧟♂️🎊

🗓️ Event Schedule
The yokai come out every night from:
5:30 PM to 10:00 PM (last entry is at 9:30 PM, just in case you like to cut it close)
Yes, it still happens if it rains ☔. But if a typhoon rolls in, they might cancel it — because flying tents and wandering ghosts don’t mix well.

📍 Location
Murasaki Mura
1020-1 Takashiho, Yomitan Village, Okinawa
This place is a historical theme park that looks like a Ryukyu-era village — perfect for spooky things to lurk behind red roof tiles and glowing lanterns.
🎟️ Admission
Adults pay ¥1,800, which is cheaper than therapy after being spooked.
Middle and high schoolers: ¥700
Elementary kids: ¥600
Preschoolers get in free — but whether they’ll sleep afterward is on you 😅

👻 So… What’s Actually Happening?
Let’s start with the basics: yokai from Okinawan legends are hiding all over the park. Some are cute (like the lantern ghosts), and others… not so much. Yes, the famous Kijimuna will make an appearance. Some of these yokai displays are made using Aomori’s Nebuta techniques — so we’re talking big, bold, and “wait, that thing MOVED” levels of detail.
You’ll walk down dark stone paths (bring comfy shoes and maybe a brave friend), collecting yokai stamps as you go. Complete your stamp rally and feel like the ghostbuster you were born to be.
🎇 Lights, Sounds, and Snacks
On top of the spirit-hunting, there’s projection mapping lighting up the red-tiled buildings with colorful shows and sound effects. Think of it like a haunted house meets a light festival meets Okinawan summer vibes.
And yes, there are food stalls selling drinks and snacks — because obviously you’re going to need something to calm your nerves (or reward your bravery).
