It’s here—the biggest Eisa event in all of Okinawa is celebrating its 70th anniversary! That’s right, the Okinawa Whole Island Eisa Festival is back for three days of drumming, dancing, and late-summer vibes. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the heartbeat of Okinawan culture (literally—you’ll feel those drums in your chest), this is the one festival you don’t want to miss.

Where and When 📍🗓️
- Dates: September 12 (Fri) – September 14 (Sun), 2025
- Main Venue: Koza Sports Park Track & Field Stadium, Okinawa City | Google Pin
- Special Event: Michi-junee parade on September 12 (Fri) at Goya Crossroads | Google Pin

What’s Happening 🎉
Day 1 – September 12 (Fri)
The festival kicks off with Michi-junee, a traditional street parade where Eisa performers march and dance their way through Goya Crossroads. Expect high energy, lots of drums, and a street festival vibe that will make you want to join in.
At the same time, two fixed stages around the area will feature Eisa groups from Okinawa City and beyond—kids, university groups, even the JGSDF 15th Brigade Eisa Team!
Day 2 – September 13 (Sat)
The spotlight moves to the 47th Okinawa City Youth Festival at Koza Sports Park. Youth associations from all over Okinawa (and even guest groups from Tokyo!) come together for a day filled with nonstop drumming and dancing. This is like the “Battle of the Bands” of Eisa—everyone brings their best moves.
Day 3 – September 14 (Sun)
The big one: the 70th Okinawa Whole Island Eisa Festival finale. Over a dozen youth groups, from Nago to Ginowan to Tokyo, perform on the main stage. The rhythm of the sanshin, the boom of the taiko, and the chants of the performers turn the stadium into an ocean of sound and energy.
The night wraps up with everyone joining in on the famous Okinawan dance Kachāshī, followed by fireworks to light up the sky. 🎆

Bonus: Beer and Drums 🍺🥁
As if the festival wasn’t enough, the Orion Beer Festival is happening at the same time on the sub-ground of Koza Sports Park. That means fresh, cold beer on tap while you soak in the sights and sounds of Eisa. Pro tip: book a nearby stay if you plan to enjoy both to the fullest.
