Okinawa’s most heartfelt night is back 💫 The Shurijo Umui no Akari Lantern Walk will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025 — a moving event where people walk through the city carrying glowing lanterns to wish for the full reconstruction of Shurijo Castle, which was lost in the 2019 fire.
A Walk of Hope 🏮
Around 1,000 participants will gather at Palette Kumoji and begin their evening stroll through Kokusai Street and the slopes of Shuri, each holding an LED lantern that shines with hope. The 4 km walk takes about 90 minutes — long enough to enjoy the night breeze and reflect on the beauty of Okinawa’s history.
When participants arrive at Shurijo Castle, they’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view — a massive banyan tree draped with glowing lanterns waiting to welcome them home.

New This Year: Shurijo Reconstruction Walk 🚶♀️
This year introduces the Shurijo Reconstruction Walk, a pre-event open to anyone — no registration required! The first 1,000 people can join in, and every participant receives a Shurijo Castle Park admission ticket. Plus, the first 500 walkers get an exclusive commemorative hand towel. Perfect for those who want to stretch their legs and their sense of purpose.
Lantern Night Market & Live Music 🍻🎶
Even if you’re not walking, you can still join the fun at the Umui no Akari Lantern Night Market inside Shurijo Castle Park. Expect cozy food trucks, fresh draft beer, and live music at the SYURI NO UTA Special Live. It’s open to everyone, so bring your friends, your kids, or your neighbors who never return your Tupperware.
