Okinawa Yomitan Takashiho Street Eisa Heaven – August 31, 2025

  • Events

Eisa drums, colorful parades, and a full-blown street party—that’s what’s waiting at the 29th Yomitan Takashiho Street Eisa Heaven 🎉. This isn’t your typical “watch from the bleachers” kind of show. On this night, the whole street shuts down and turns into Okinawa’s biggest neighborhood block party.

Where and When

📅 Date: Sunday, August 31, 2025
🕔 Time: 17:00–21:00
📍 Location: Takashiho Street (Route 6), Yomitan Village, Okinawa | Google Pin
🚍 Parking: Central Parking Lot across from Yomitan Village Office (shuttle bus to venue). No parking near the festival grounds.

What’s Happening

The heart of this event is the Michi Junee—a traditional parade where youth groups drum and dance Eisa through the streets to honor their ancestors. Unlike a stage performance, you’ll be right there, close enough to feel the beat in your chest. The energy is electric, and the atmosphere is like stepping straight into Okinawa’s summer soul.

But it’s not just about watching. This is a traditional street fest, meaning all the local residents come out to turn the neighborhood into one giant party. Neighbors set up food stalls, cook tasty bites, and run old-school festival games. One minute your neighbor is grilling yakitori, the next they’re running a ring toss booth. It’s the kind of community festival where everyone has a role, and everyone is family for the night.

Who’s Performing

A total of nine groups will parade through, filling the street with powerful drumming and dancing:

  • Takashiho Children’s Association
  • Takashiho Youth Association
  • Tokeshi Youth Association
  • Kanna Youth Association (Ginoza)
  • Ōjana Youth Association (Ginowan)
  • Chūō Youth Association (Kadena)
  • Shimabukuro Youth Association (Kitanakagusuku)
  • Tame Mata Youth Association (Nago)
  • Ryukyu Kazaguruma (Okinawa International University Circle)

Why You Should Go

If you’ve ever wanted to experience Okinawa beyond the tourist spots, this is it. Michi Junee is a living tradition, and this street party is as local as it gets. Drums, dancing, neighbors cooking food, kids running around with festival snacks—it’s pure Okinawan summer magic.
