Let’s set expectations properly right up front: this is a super local event.
No big-name performers, no glossy production, no perfectly timed schedule. What you do get is neighbors, farmers, aunties, uncles, kids, karaoke, and food being handed to you because it’s the end of the year and that’s just how things work around here.
If you like events that feel more like a community thank-you party than a festival brochure, you’re in the right place.

What’s Happening
The Onna Village Rest Station Nakayukui Market Year-End Appriciation Festival runs for two days and is one of those yearly traditions that locals quietly look forward to.
As a gesture of appreciation, there’s a free hot pot giveaway each day, limited to 200 servings, which means arriving early is a very good life choice 🍲
Saturday features a seafood hot pot, while Sunday switches to a mountain vegetable hot pot.
Around the market, you’ll find locally grown produce like potatoes, carrots, onions, lettuce, cucumbers, island pumpkin, and freshly harvested cabbage from Onna Village, all sold at special prices 🥕🥬
There are also seasonal hot pot ingredient sets and a dangerously fun stuff-all-you-can bean sprout challenge that turns adults into competitive athletes.
Somewhere among the shelves are mystery items that become 10 yen at checkout. No signs. No hints. Just vibes and luck.

Stage Events and Local Chaos
The stage program is peak local energy. Expect karaoke contests that start casually and escalate quickly, mandarin orange peeling competitions, hands-on auction experiences, and brown sugar smashing that somehow draws a crowd 🍊
On Saturday only, an Okinawan bullfighting bull shows up. Not to fight—just to pose for photos. It’s oddly wholesome and very Onna Village.
There are also event-only products and hands-on workshops, making this the kind of event where wandering without a plan is basically the recommended strategy.
