The smell of pottery, ocean breeze, and the sound of your wallet softly crying — yep, it’s time again for one of Okinawa’s most loved art events, the Yomitan Yachimun & Craft Market!
What Is Yachimun?
“Yachimun” (やちむん) is the Okinawan word for pottery. It’s been part of island life for centuries — long before “ceramic aesthetic” became a Pinterest trend. Each piece is handmade, often featuring natural glazes, bold brush strokes, and that perfectly imperfect vibe that makes it feel alive.
These aren’t your average souvenir mugs — yachimun bowls and plates are built for everyday use, often showing traces of Okinawa’s coral-rich soil and ocean hues. Whether you’re a collector or just someone who likes your coffee in something with personality, this is your kind of festival.

What’s Happening
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival — two glorious decades of beautiful yachimun (Okinawan pottery) and Ryukyu glass meeting the salty Yomitan air. Sixteen local pottery studios and seven glass studios from across Okinawa will show off their creations.
You can chat directly with the artisans, find pieces that make your kitchen look like a lifestyle magazine, and pretend you totally needed that third handmade bowl for “aesthetic reasons.”
And because shopping makes everyone hungry, you’ll find kitchen cars serving up local bites — the kind of food that makes you forget you already had lunch.
