Okinawa Kurashiki Dam Festival 2025: Water Slides, Workshops & Wildlife Fun on August 3

  • Events

Looking for a wild way to cool off this summer? Kurashiki Dam Festival is coming back on Sunday, August 3, 2025, and it’s basically a kid’s dream and a parent’s answer to “I’m bored” in one splashy package. Held at the scenic Kurashiki Dam, which spans Okinawa City and Uruma City, this event mixes nature, water play, and hands-on workshops into one full-on adventure.

This dam isn’t just a pretty face—it’s a powerhouse of flood control and water supply that’s saving the downstream rivers from turning into indoor swimming pools every time it rains. And once a year, the public gets to take it over… respectfully, of course.

Event Details

Event Date: August 3, 2025 (Sunday)
Time: 10:00–15:00
Location: Kurashiki Dam, Uruma City | Google Pin
Weather backup plan: Check the Okinawa City website—Mother Nature might have plans of her own.

🚌 Parking and Shuttle Drama-Free Plan

Parking inside the dam? Not happening. But don’t worry, you can park at the two temporary lots and hop on the shuttle like a local festival pro.
Shuttle runs from 9:30 to 16:30, which is exactly how long your kid will keep yelling “again!” at the water slide.

🚿 Get Ready to Get Soaked!

There’s a river and a massive water slide set up just for the event, so kids (and adults pretending to supervise) can go wild and cool down Okinawa-style. No tickets needed—just bring your swimsuit, a towel, and enough snacks to avoid a hangry meltdown by noon.

🎨 Learn Something (But Make It Fun)

This isn’t just about splashing—your kids can accidentally learn something too. Workshops include:

🪵 Build a Bookshelf

Time: 10:30, 11:40, 14:00
Fee: ¥1,000
Spots: 24 per session

🥁 Make a Mini Drum (Shime-Daiko)

Time: 10:30, 11:40, 14:00
Fee: ¥500
Spots: 24 per session

🌵 Succulent Planting

Time: 10:30, 11:40, 14:00
Free
Spots: 16 per session

🐞 Creature Exploration Tour

Time: 10:30, 11:40, 14:00
Free
Spots: ~20 per session
Gear up with sneakers, a hat, towel, and something to carry a newfound love of bugs.

Pro tip: All workshops are first-come, first-served. No sending your cousin’s friend to grab five tickets—each person has to show up and register themselves. Fair is fair.

🎭 Performances That Make You Smile (and Clap Awkwardly)

While the kids are dripping wet and full of rice balls, enjoy performances on stage by local preschools and kids’ clubs showing off traditional dance moves that are cuter than your neighbor’s dog.

Stage Highlights:
10:30 – Dance (Chibana Preschool)
10:42 – Mayor’s mic drop
10:49 – Civil engineer gets a moment
10:56 – Guest speaker (probably claps for himself)
11:06 – Dance Studio Across
11:31 – Ikehara Kids Club brings the culture
