If you have lived on this rock long enough, you know that your kitchen cabinets are currently a structural hazard filled with mismatched plates. Well, it is time to add more weight to those sagging shelves. The 33rd Yomitan Yachimun Market is back, and it is the biggest pottery party on the island. “Yachimun” is just the local way of saying “pottery,” but saying it makes you sound like you actually know what is going on. This event is where dozens of local kilns gather to sell their handmade goods at prices that actually make sense, unlike that designer rug your mother-in-law insisted you buy 🍶

Every piece here is a one-of-a-kind original. Because they are handmade, the clay, the glaze, and even the humidity on the day they were fired make each one different. It is the perfect place to find a bowl that says, “I have a refined personality,” even if you are just using it to eat cereal in your pajamas at 2 PM. If you are feeling lucky or just want to see people get aggressive over clay, there is a charity auction both days. It is a great way to pretend you are contributing to society while fueling your ceramic addiction 🏺
